History 

The Centre stands on land acquired from Baron Tredegar in July 1865 by Nathaniel Powell.  A ‘messuage’ or dwelling  house was built in 1866 and was originally known as ‘Melbourne House’.  Records do not indicate the reason for its name which had by the 1950’s been dropped and was by 1957 firmly established as 33 The Parade.

The property was leased too many different individuals from 1866 through to 1879 when John Williams an Optician was the first healthcare professional to occupy the premises.

It is fair to say that 33 The Parade has had an eclectic range of owners, occupiers and leaseholders.  Businessmen, Solicitors, Clergymen and widows have all enjoyed this building in the last century.

In 1961 an investment company sold the by now freehold premises to the Trustees of the Cardiff United District Branch of the Ancient Order or Foresters Friendly Society.

It was from this ancient order that in 1996 Sports Performance Services Ltd first leased the ground floor of 33 The Parade and THE Centre was created.  Returning to its Healthcare roots. The rest is now that of SPS Ltd history as SPS Ltd has occupied the whole building since 1998 to the present day.

Physiotherapy and Education were the initial services offered by SPS expanding to Osteopathy, Hypnotherapy, Accupuncture Counselling and Beauty Therapy over a 25 year period.

In 2018 THE Centre closed its doors for redevelopment and refurbishment to take THE Centre through the next 25years and beyond. The Therapy, Health and Education Centre is a family run business and reopened its doors after covid in January 2022. It offers a wide range specialist services from treatments to qualifications delivered by highly qualified and experienced practitioners.

The Centre has grown and been redesigned and modernised to ensure we keep our high standards of services and are able to add new services as we grow from a physiotherapy clinic and sports massage education centre to help meet the needs of the moment.
